Information is collected on each participating machine and is sent to the NLB server database. The system load application uses the NLB database information supplied by the ccccoolllleecctt program. The ccccoolllleecctt program relies on the ssaarr(1) command to retrieve system performance data. If you are running UNICOS/mk, the ssaarr(1) command will not provide system performance data for memory or swapping usage statistics. Therefore, the LLooaadd window for memory demand will display a fixed value of 9966%% memory demand for the UNICOS/mk platforms. From the initial LLooaadd window, you can also display data about an individual host and a summary of load data for an individual host. The LLooaadd window consists of the following three sections: * Menu bar * NQE load display (memory demand, system CPU, idle CPU, and total I/O per second) for each machine in the NLB complex * Server name display area The FFiillee, OOppttiioonnss, VViieeww, and HHeellpp menus are located within the menu bar at the top of the LLooaadd window and contain lists of options. To open a menu window, place the mouse pointer over the button and press the left mouse button once. The FFiillee menu contains the EExxiitt option, which closes all of the windows associated with the NQE load display and terminates the program. The OOppttiioonnss menu options are as follows: OOppttiioonn DDeessccrriippttiioonn HHoosstt SSeelleeccttiioonn Provides selections for hosts that you want to display. If you toggle a host in the HHoosstt SSeelleeccttiioonn window, there is an immediate effect on the contents of each chart in the LLooaadd window. CChhaarrtt EEddiittoorr Creates new charts, changes the configuration of an existing chart, adds a chart to the LLooaadd window, or removes a chart from the LLooaadd window. For more information, see the subsection on the CChhaarrtt EEddiittoorr option. The VViieeww menu contains the CChhaarrtt FFoorrmmuullaaee option, which displays the formula used to calculate each of the charts. The HHeellpp menu lets you view either this nnqqee man page or information about how to access the _N_Q_E _U_s_e_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e, publication SG-2148. The NQE load display contains several animated charts that compare different data from a selection of the hosts known to the NLB server. X resources control the number and content of these charts. To change the number of charts or the configuration of each chart, edit your ..XXddeeffaauullttss file or use the CChhaarrtt EEddiittoorr option on the OOppttiioonnss menu. For more information, see the subsection on the CChhaarrtt EEddiittoorr option. Each chart displayed has a title, a scale, and one button per host. The buttons control access to the other views of the data. If you change the window size, charts automatically adjust their size. A vertical scroll bar controls which hosts are currently visible. The bottom left corner of the LLooaadd window displays the server from which the data is taken. The value represented by each chart in the display is the result of an expression that combines the raw data supplied by the NLB collectors. For example, total memory usage at any one time might be represented as a percentage by using the following formula: 100.0 * (NLB_PHYSMEM - NLB_FREEMEM + NLB_SWAPPING / 2) / NLB_PHYSMEM NNLLBB__PPHHSSYYMMEEMM is the amount of physical memory available, NNLLBB__FFRREEEEMMEEMM is the unused portion of this memory, and NNLLBB__SSWWAAPPPPIINNGG is the amount of data moved on or off the swap device per second. The complete list of attributes available for display is as follows: AAttttrriibbuuttee DDeessccrriippttiioonn NNLLBB__CCLLOOCCKK Clock speed (in picoseconds). NNLLBB__FFRREEEEMMEEMM Currently unused physical memory (in Kbytes). NNLLBB__FFRREEEETTMMPP Amount of free temporary file space (in Mbytes). To activate a display of data about an individual host, click the left mouse button over the host's name in any of the charts in the main display. You will see nonnumerical data about the host, such as the operating system type and revision level. When the data changes, this display is refreshed. To control the information that is displayed, edit the ..XXddeeffaauullttss files. To dismiss the window, click on the DDiissmmiissss button at the bottom of the window or click the left mouse button over the host name in the LLooaadd window. Clicking the middle button over a host name in the LLooaadd window adds a summary display for that host to a second graphical display. This smaller display provides the same data as the main window, but the data is grouped by host rather than by type. To cancel a host from the summary display, click the middle mouse button over the host name in the LLooaadd window. Clicking the left mouse button over the host name in the HHoosstt SSuummmmaarryy window executes an rrsshh(1) command to the host. RReessoouurrcceess A list of the more useful resources follows: OOppttiioonn DDeessccrriippttiioonn sseerrvveerr Location of the NLB server, taken by default from the NQE configuration file.
